As it was previously expected, on the 11th of January 2022, former President János Áder set the date for the next parliamentary elections, as well as the date of the hate-mongering referendum, which was to ostracize gender and sexual minorities. It's interesting looking back to see what changed in this time period of almost a year that made it possible to hold a referendum on the same day as the legislative elections since it wasn't possible to do so a year prior.

After two years, the Constitutional Court finally made a decision on a case initiated by a judge of the Capital District Court in a pending case of legal gender recognition, as they found it necessary to examine the conformity of the applicable legal provisions with the Fundamental Law. In the petitioner judge's view, according to the case law of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights, transgender people have the right to the recognition by the State of the gender and name corresponding to their self-defined identity, as a matter of human dignity and respect for their private life.

Beanpole, crater face, bony, big ears, tin grin - just a few of those insults, nicknames that were used without consent. This happens with many people and most of us can leave these behind, overcome or get used to while growing up. However trans women and men can not do that, they have to carry their birth name for their whole life. Even if it does not fit them. An initiative called Name from the Past was created to highlight this issue.
