Paula Overby, a 59-year-old transgender woman, announced her candidacy today, Aug. 12, for Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District in the 2014 election.

A quality-assurance analyst, Overby will run against Thomas Craft, who is also new to the political arena, as well as Mike Obermueller, who has run for office previously but lost.

On this year's Transgender Day of Remembrance (20th of November) TransVanilla Transgender Association was founded in Budapest, Hungary.

The movement of transgender people started more than four years ago when the website TransVanilla was launched as an online information source and community support group first. Later on in 2010 monthly meetings were held with lectures by experts and thematic discussions and it became the main activity of the community. Some of the regular visitors of this meetings founded the organization.

The primary purpose of the Association is to represent the interests of transgender people in all walks of life. The Association's founding members include a psychologist, a pharmacist and a lawyer as well and they help the transgenders with their expertise.
